Ride the Hurricane 2026 is in the books!

Thank you so much for being a part of the ride. I think we’ll be talking about this one for a long time! The weather report did us all dirty and I think we all got a huge reminder that we live in the PNW. Anything can happen, even in August.

I’m not gonna lie, when we started getting reports from the emergency radio crew about rain up on the mountain and chilly cyclists headed downhill, I was afraid it would ruin the ride experience for everyone. But I underestimated this amazing group of cyclists and volunteers, and you all proved once again that you’re a special group. You made do with trash bags and cardboard boxes to use as an extra layer, and I heard the ambulance was an impromptu gathering place. I even heard the phrase “clown car” more than once. If anyone got a picture of that please send it our way.
The After Party was the most well-attended we’ve ever had, and the positive and cheerful attitudes of the cyclists while recounting their freezing ride down the mountain was truly remarkable. And thankfully, most of you said you plan to come back next year! For you first-timers, I promise it’s not usually like this! I hope you’ll give RTH and the ONP another chance. Thanks to Mighty Pine Brewing and Little Devil’s Lunchbox, most of you were able to end the day on a high (and warmer) note.

And of course we have to give a huge shout-out to our incredible volunteers, who stayed hyped and inspiring in spite of the cold, and helped come up with some creative ways for you all to warm up a bit. Special thanks to Christopher Thomsen for his mountainside espresso shots, Gina Senz for the amazing truffles she makes each year, and Dancing Hands for drumming you up that last, brutal corner.

Now, on to the after ride business.

Strava – As always we’re getting emails from riders who aren’t seeing themselves on the Strava results. I am forwarding all of those to our resident expert on Strava, Ted Hohl (thank you, Ted!) who is a magician with the program and able to find even the most obscure details. We’ve posted the top 25 men and women here, but the official Strava segment and all results can be found HERE.

Feedback – We don’t so an official post-ride survey anymore because the responses are so low, but we love feedback. We want this ride to be truly special and we couldn’t do it without you. We love to hear stories about the ride or details of your experience. Please send all your compliments, what worked and what didn’t, and any other ideas you have about how we can make the ride better. Please note that we pass all compliments on to our volunteers, so they get to see them to.

Thanks again for being a part of this experience, and as always I’m available to all of you by email, text, or phone, anytime. Ride the Hurricane is always the 1st Sunday in August, and registration will open in March. Hope to see you all then!
