Ride Day Info

Please check out the FAQ Page for important information!

Times and locations

  • Early Check-in – Bib and purchased jersey pickup on the Friday and Saturday before the ride. 6pm – 8pm. Early check in will be at the ride start/finish location on Port Angeles City Pier, 315 N. Lincoln
  • Ride Day Check-in – Opens at 6:00am – All cyclists must be checked in by 9 am to ensure they have enough time to make it to the top.
  • Ride Start – The ride starts and ends at the beginning of the Waterfront Trail near Port Angeles City Pier. If you’re checked in you can start anytime, as long as you’re back down off Hurricane Ridge Road by noon. Be sure and bring layers to wear. Gloves recommended. Even on a warm day the descent can be chilly.
  • Ride Finish – Same as the start location. Cyclists start crossing the finish line around 8:30 am, and keep going all morning long.
  • After Party – Tacos, Beer, and Soft Drinks will start being served at 10 am on Port Angeles City Pier, right next to the start/finish line

After Party

  • 10 am – 2 pm on Port Angeles City Pier. IMPORTANT! We need to know if you’re coming to the After Party, so PLEASE keep your eye out for an RSVP request via email in mid-July. The After Party is included in your entry fee, but we will need an RSVP in order for you to attend. A limited number of tickets for non-cycling guests will be available for purchase at that time.

Road closure

7 am to 12 pm – Hurricane Ridge closed to cars. Lower Hurricane Ridge Road open to local traffic only, upper road into the park will be closed to ALL motor vehicles. IMPORTANT: It is VERY important that you time your departure in order to be completely off Hurricane Ridge road by noon when it opens to motor vehicles. For most that means starting between 6 am and 8 am (although very fit cyclists may depart later), and leaving the top no later than 11:30-11:45 am. Sweeps will depart from the top to turn around any cyclists who are still heading up at that time. Cyclists who depart earlier than 6 am should watch for for the vehicles of our aid station volunteers and emergency services ambulance as they head to their places up the mountain.

Ride Check-in

A Note About Ride Packets: In our commitment to sustainability, Ride the Hurricane doesn’t provide traditional ride packets filled with disposable swag and printed materials. Instead, we choose to put that money into in the ride experience. Printed cue sheets will be available at check-in, and a large cue sheet will also be posted for riders who prefer to snap a photo.

Early Check-in: 6pm to 8pm on Friday 7/31 and 6pm to 8pm on Saturday 8/1 at Port Angeles City Pier (at the ride start) at 315 N. Lincoln St.

Ride Day Check In: 6 am to 9 am at Port Angeles City Pier, where the ride begins. Please make it easier on our volunteers by allowing them to set up without being asked to help cyclists earlier than the posted hours.

Important Details:

  • The segment starts slightly AFTER the official ride start to ensure riders are fully underway.
  • The segment ends at the apex of the climb, as you enter the parking lot.
  • Review the route carefully BEFORE beginning to avoid confusion.  Veering from the route even slightly can cause you to be dropped from the segment
  • Tunnels may occasionally interfere with GPS signals, though this is rare.
  • This challenge is for the ascent only. Descending cyclists must follow posted speed limits, as required by Olympic National Park.
